2024 RMS Summit Awards

The SWE RMS Summit Awards are presented to RMS members, teams, or collegiates who have made an outstanding contribution to activities within RMS during the fiscal year. Nominees are judged based on the significance of the achievements cited on behalf of the nominee and on the contributions of the nominee to various RMS activities. RMS Summit Award recipients were recognized at the 2024 Spring Summit event held on April 20th, 2024, at the CU Denver campus. This year RMS recognized the following members for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the section.

Christi Wisleder
Outstanding Communicator Award

This year the Outstanding Communication Award recipient is Christi Wisleder for her herculean effort to launch the new SWE RMS website. Christi went above and beyond in launching our new SWE Rocky Mountain Section website this year. While Christi was creating our brand new website for SWE RMS, she remained in excellent communication with both global SWE and the volunteers in SWE RMS to ensure that the website met everyone’s needs and expectations. The new website allows for greater usability and will help us reach even more members and potential members thanks to Christi’s diligent work. Christi is also the Spring Summit marketing and social media lead and the GESTEM communications subcommittee lead. We can always count on a job well done when Christi is leading the effort!

Mamata Kadakia
Outstanding Membership Award

This year the Outstanding Membership Award recipient is Mamata Kadakia for her great success as South Denver Social Chair. Mamata joined RMS in January 2023 and was quick to step in and support RMS with her first leadership role as Awards Chair, focused on recognizing the 2023 Summit Award recipients at Spring Summit last year. Mamata is currently the Denver South Local Social Chair. This geographic area had been quiet over the past few years, and Mamata has reinvigorated social life back to Denver South. Her events have helped foster community and provide support to our members, thus increasing our member experience and involvement. Mamata has been a valuable asset to SWE RMS and her continued good work leaves a positive impact on our section and members.

Hannah Pearson
Newcomer Award

This year the Outstanding Newcomer Award recipient is Hannah Pearson for her involvement with MPWR, Women Rising, Spring Summit, Winter Celebration, and GESTEM. After attending her first GESTEM event as a workshop presenter, Hannah joined the SWE in July 2022. Being part of MPWR (empower), Merrick’s ERG for women, Hannah volunteered to lead as co-chair for FY24. Hannah led the development and delivery of a session panel at the 2023 Spring Summit. With Hannah’s leadership, SWE Rocky Mountain Section and Merrick co-hosted the highly successful joint event Women Rising with Tammy Johnson and Lisa Robert. As a newer member to SWE, Hannah has already had a big helping hand in supporting RMS in membership, outreach, and professional development events.

Sarah Gilmore
Outstanding Outreach Award
This year the Outstanding Outreach Award recipient is Sarah Gilmore for your long-term commitment to leading the GESTEM committee.
Sarah has led the GESTEM committee to success for many years. A notable accomplishment is rebuilding the GESTEM event after the 2020 event was canceled due to a global pandemic. 2022 marked the first year returning to a large-scale in-person outreach event with 650 girls, overcoming looming financial concerns. For 2023, GESTEM event is back to pre-pandemic attendance with over 1,000 7th grade girls. Leveraging subcommittees and Executive Council support, Sarah is leading the committee to a another successful large-scale outreach event. Sarah’s countless volunteer hours and passion for STEM outreach are invaluable as she leads the GESTEM committee.

Kate Brusoe, Alina Pena, Kassidy Riketson and Mary Stallings
Outstanding Professional Development Award

The last time SWE Rocky Mountain Section partnered with the CU Denver Section to host a one-day mini-conference was September 2012. So after a decade hiatus from hosting at the CU Denver campus, RMS and CU Denver SWE sections teamed up for the 2024 Spring Summit. The base expectation the committee puts towards partnering student sections is to help identify the venue location and reserve the rooms. The CU Denver committee members have gone far beyond that base expectation. During the planning kickoff meeting, they were an active part of the discussion and helped with brainstorming to land on the 2024 theme “Empowering Possibilities”. They volunteered to support additional subcommittees and even helped drive the decisions for the logo and refined the logo design, while adding CU in the City as an event hashtag. The group actively participates in planning meetings, on subcommittees, and volunteers for additional tasks. They set a new bar on what a collegiate section can do to make Spring Summit a signature professional development event.

Merinda Lobato
Superior Supporter
This year the Outstanding Superior Supporter Award recipient is Merinda Lobato for her help planning Transition to the New Normal, Diversity & Identity, and Women in Sustainability, alongside your numerous speaking appearances at SWE events. Merinda was convinced that SWE was a phenomenal organization after attending WE Local Denver as a non-member. Merinda is now an active member of SWE Pikes Peak Section and supports Rocky Mountain Section. She presented at multiple WE Locals and the 2022, 2023, and now 2024 Spring Summit, contributing to the professional development of RMS members and local collegiates. Additionally, Merinda supported the re-ignition of MPWR (empower), Merrick’s ERG for women as co-chair, re-establishing the group as a center for support and learning emerging from the pandemic. Merinda demonstrates that you do not need to be an engineer to give and receive value in SWE.
