2017 Spring Summit: A Smashing Success

On April 22, 2017 the Rocky Mountain Section and University of Colorado at Boulder SWE Section  co-hosted the Spring Summit, a one-day professional development conference at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. Over 60 participants attended the conference on Earth Day with the theme of “Be the Difference” with a full schedule of seminars ranging on networking, interview strategies, sustainability and professional development. Speakers included Past President Jill Tietjen and current SWE Treasurer Heather Doty. The day culminated with the presentation of the RMS Section’s scholarships totaling in $10,500 to local high school and college students as well as the presentation of awards to the finalists of the 30th annual Great Women in Engineering and Science 6th Grade Essay Contest. RMS and CU SWE continue to build on their relationship while collaborating with one another.

The 2017 Rocky Mountain Summit Awards were also presented. Check out the pictures and descriptions of our RMS award winners below:

Anna Sparks
SWE Region i Treasurer
Adams County Department of Transportation

Anna stepped into new roles in SWE RMS as well as Region i in FY17.  She took on a role on the nominating committee for RMS, and a role as the Treasurer for Region, both of which are crucial roles in which her leadership is greatly appreciated.  Anna also attends and supports regular section events.  All of this makes Anna an excellent candidate for this award.

Casey Waggy
SWE Region i Lt. Governor
SWE RMS Membership Chair
Ball Aerospace

Casey has served the section in many ways over the past few years, and this year specifically stepped up to take on roles with the financial review committee and the nominating committee.  Neither is a small task and her role in each was greatly appreciated.  In addition to supporting SWE RMS, she is also taking on new SWE leadership roles as the Lieutenant Governor of Region i.  Casey’s support of SWE both locally and regionally make her an excellent candidate for this award.

Sarah Gilmore
SWE RMS GESTEM Chair
Keysight Technologies

Sarah has committed countless hours of service to SWE RMS as an executive council member and volunteer for GESTEM, specifically in taking on the role of chair for GESTEM.  Her leadership was invaluable for this event, and the section could not have pulled it off without her.  It is for these reasons that Sarah is deserving of recognition for her roles in SWE RMS.

University of Colorado SWE Section
The entire executive council for the CU SWE Section went above and beyond in their leadership, collaboration, and support of both the CU and RMS SWE sections.  These leaders took on positions in the Spring Summit Planning Committee, piloted a new internship/mentoring program between the sections, and so much more.  Their enthusiasm makes SWE activities more exciting and energetic for professional members, and bridges the gap between the professional and collegiate sections.  For these reasons, the CU SWE section is deserving of recognition.
